I have a natural facility for distilling technical concepts and explaining them to a non-technical audience. I began doing this informally through various places of employment and became the “go-to” tech guru in my department, or on our floor.
I formalized this through my B.Sc. in computer science, where I specialized in the human-computer interface and cognitive psychology.
My university degree in User Centred Design and Psychology has direct applicability and overlap with certain key adult learning principles – connect new learning to prior experience; actively involve users in the learning process; and present new information in a goal- and relevancy-related context.
In one capacity or the other, I have been engaged in instructional design, teaching, training, and personal coaching for over 17 years.
Instructional Designer and Coach/Facilitator:
Requires collaboration, patience, excellent analytical and listening skills.
- Design, develop, and deliver courses (ILT) for older adults.
- Conduct training sessions (CBT) at various levels for financial services industry, academia, and non-profit organizations.
- Offer one-on-one task-based coaching sessions.
- Assist university teaching staff to set up courses in Moodle LMS.
- Develop online intranet-based help guides.
I have a keen interest in helping to build people’s core competencies and I believe the internet is the most efficient tool for delivering targeted, self-guided, competency-based learning.
